Guest Review by Jerry Sweley:
Live at The El Mocambo gives you front row seats to a legendary 1983 concert.
From the first note, you had better fasten your seat belt because you're goin'
for a ride.
Most great artists, particularly blues artists, are constantly taking
chances... stretching out... discovering new possibilities in songs they play
nightly. Brother Jimmie Vaughan hit the nail on the head (as only he could) when
he said,
"He never played it the same way once, much less twice."
As impressive
as Stevie Ray Vaughan's brief studio career was, the records were but moments:
'Stills' of songs, and of a guitar player in full evolution.
Like any self-respecting
guitar slinger, Stevie Ray's flashy in-your-face style caught fire in front of
a live audience.
This was obviously the case one night in 1983 when SRV & his
band 'Double Trouble' played Toronto's El Mocambo.
Luckily, the entire event
was captured on film.
Stevie Ray Vaughan died tragically on August 27, 1990 at the age of 35.
Rest in
peace, my friend.
Jerry
